The days are slowly shortening, the football season has begun, and the grass is showing the signs of warmer months past. Evenings are cooler, though throwing on a light jumper means al fresco is not yet off the menu.
The changing seasons call for a change in drinking habits. Crisp whites and summery rosés are gradually on the way out; and though there is still room for lighter, fresher reds, our minds turn to richer, heavier wines. Not massive oaky behemoths, but rather richly scented, peppery, herbal reds from somewhere like the Northern Rhône or similar.
Here are five sorts of wines we're drinking a lot of at the moment.
1. Cabernet Franc from the Loire
3. Ligurian Pigato
4. Galician Godello
5. Cooler climate Syrah
