Vinyes de l’AlbàCatalunya | Spain
Vinyes de l’Albà is found 500 metres above sea level in the mountains of Catalunya, its vineyards dotted on steep contours depicted on their bottle labels.
Sumoll is an old Catalan grape, only really found here and only around 250 hectares in plantings. It's not often seen as a varietal wine, far too often relegated to a supporting role in blends of better-known international varieties. It really should be made more often on its own, because it's a red-fruited, black olived, earthy yet fresh delight. This is organic, very low added sulphur, and unoaked, with just 3,000 bottles made each year. |
